New Muslims Association
Set up in 2004 it is based in Blackburn (Lancashire) whose aim is to help and support “New Muslims” or “Converts to Islam” and for those who are contemplating/interested in Islam within the Blackburn and surrounding Lancashire area.
Our aim is to provide help with:
- Information on Islam
- Becoming a Muslim
- How to Perform Wudhu
- Prayer
- Meeting other New Muslims
- Social Gatherings
Regardless of how long you have embraced Islam, if you would like to attend one of our social gatherings and meet other converts then you are most welcome to contact us. A fellow Muslim convert will respond to you and help you find the support and information you need.
What is Islam?
Islam is not a new religion but the same truth that Allah Has revealed through all his Prophets to every people. A fifth of the worlds population are Muslim and are growing every day.
Islam is both a religion and a complete way of life.
Muslims follow a religion of peace, mercy & forgiveness and a very vast majority has nothing to do with the extremely grave events which have come to be associated with their faith.
Social Gatherings
We feel that it is important to make Islam welcoming, and we do this by holding meetings and dinners for men, women and children as a social gathering so that every one will make new friends.
We also will have short talks given on Islam and its complete way of life.
All are welcome New Muslims, None Muslims and Born Muslims. We can all learn about Islam together.
Books to read
Upon embracing Islam we will provide information and a “welcome” pack which will include books to make it easy for the new Muslim to learn the basics of Islam.
[1] Islam-beliefs and teachings- by Ghulam Sarwar
[2] Jewels of guidance: Advice from the Prophet Muhammad [pbuh]-Hamzah Ajjaf
[3] Way to the Qur’an – Khurram Murad
[4] Islam –The natural way – Abdul wahid Hamid
[5] A simple guide to prayer for beginners – Batool al Toma and Muhammad Khaleel
How does someone become a Muslim?
Simply by reciting the “SHAHADAH” Testimony of faith.
As pronounced in Arabic.
ASHADU AN LA ILLAHA ILL’ALLAH WA ASHADU ANNA MUHAMMADAN RASOOL’ALLAH.
Translated:
“I bear witness and testify that here is no deity apart from Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah”
By this declaration, which should be accompanied by inward resolve, the believer announces his or her faith to Islam.
